MeccanoRAMA – the Realtime Animated Model Assembler for Meccano®

(copyright © 2012 Allan C Farquharson)

Picture
The above image is a screenshot of the startup screen for the MeccanoRAMA Demo Kit, consisting of a simple windmill model to assemble from a given set of virtual Meccano® parts. The application guides the user through the assembly step by step. The user will only be allowed to proceed to a successive step only once the parts for the current step are correctly assembled. On completing the final step, the user will be able to advance to the Grand Finale in an environment where he/she can interact with their completed model!

My main objective in providing this application has been to demonstrate, in the simplest manner possible, how a newcomer to 3D graphics, by assembling a basic  Meccano® model, can gain some insight into the virtual 3D world. With this in mind, the operator interface has been kept to the bare minimum, with no confusing terminology to clutter and confuse.

If you have not been able to complete all six steps, then here is a little assistance in the form of  my saved set of .dat files for all the steps. Just unzip them into the existing "savedata" folder, off the main MeccanoRama application folder.
